I’ve… had this lying around half-translated for a while, so it’s a relief to finally finish it! There’s a bit of background reading for this one, as well. Wani posted an update on Twitter that basically says “I used Dissociative Personality Disorder (DID) as a theme to present an individualistic delusion of the Renko-Merry coupling. I wrote it mixing in some personal experiences, and with a world view set after the second track, ‘Future Prediction’ (未来予報).” He goes on to say something like “I have a feeling that almost everyone has had an experience of feeling like they can’t keep on living unless they’re destroyed in place of another person.”

Dissociative Personality Disorder was previously known as multiple personality disorder. You can see this in the song when either Renko or Merry talk about that ‘other me’ and ‘waking up.’ I’ll leave the rest up to your interpretation!

anata ga nokoshita miren no omori ga
kokoro wo hikizuri binetsu wo warau

The lure of attachment that you left behind
Sneers at my fever whilst dragging my heart along…

tojikomete ori no naka kidzukarenai you ni
me ga sametara kizu wo eguri kaesu kara
mou hitotsu no mou hitori no watashi jishin wo
tojikomete nemurasete sotto shimatte

Upon waking, I continuously gouge out my old wounds.
So I can remain unaware of them inside this cage,
I lock up that other person. My other self.
I put her to sleep. Then, gently, I bring her to an end.

kodoku wo matotta miren no kubiwa ga
tsunaide kureta no yami to itsuwari
anata ga furetara miren no omori ga
kokoro wo hikizuri binetsu wo sasou

I was clad in solitude, and darkness and lies
Fastened this collar of attachment to my neck.
If you were to touch me, that lure of attachment
Would call forth my fever whilst dragging my heart along…

mata ne tte te wo furi au
saigo no egao wo ima demo
yume de miteru no
ano ko ga kawari ni kowarete kurete
ikireru ki ga shiteita

We said “farewell,” and waved goodbye.
Even now, in my dreams, I see you
As you smiled at me for the last time.
Because I was destroyed in place of that child
I feel like I’m able to live…

tojikomete ori no naka kidzukarenai you ni
me ga sametara kizu wo eguri kaesu kara
sayonara wo mou hitori no watashi jishin ni
iikikasete nemurasete mikawari ni shite

Upon waking, I continuously gouge out my old wounds.
So I can remain unaware of them inside this cage,
I say goodbye to my other self. I tell her what to do…
I put her to sleep. Then, I substitute myself for her.

mata ne tte te wo furimae
saisho no kotoba ga kikoeru
ano hi unazuku
watashi no kawari ni kowarete kurete
hontou ni arigato

Before we said “farewell,” and waved goodbye,
I could hear the first words you spoke to me.
I nod my head to that day.
Because you were destroyed in place of me,
I am truly grateful…

mata ne tte te wo furi au
saigo no egao wo ima demo
yume de miteru no
ano ko ga kawari ni kowarete kurete
ikireru ki ga shiteita

We said “farewell,” and waved goodbye.
Even now, in my dreams,
I see you as you smiled at me for the last time.
Because I was destroyed in place of that child
I feel like I’m able to live…

anata ga nokoshita miren no omori ga
kokoro wo hikizuri binetsu wo warau

The lure of attachment that you left behind
Sneers at my fever whilst dragging my heart along…

Thanks so much for this. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to translate this for the longest time.
