Maxion
hoshi to sora to kumo no ma ni ma ni
Between the Stars, the Sky, and the Clouds

Vocals: Oda Yuu (小田ユウ)
Lyrics: MAKI
Arranged by: kenya
Album: Defectus of the Distant Winds
Circle: Seventh Heaven MAXION
Event: Kouroumu 7
Original Theme: Year-Round Absorbed Curiosity [

Requested by: Adelheid

Like the last Seventh Heaven MAXION song I translated, some archaic language is used throughout this track. The last part of the title, 間に間に (‘ma ni ma ni’) is apparently an old form of the current 随に (‘ma ni ma ni’), meaning ‘at the mercy of.’ However, I translated it as ‘Between,’ based on how it is used throughout the song.

There are some beautiful images in the original Japanese text, but some phrases didn’t really translate into English that well. The main image is that of a woman, pining for her dead lover, though she can feel his presence out there…

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

kurai sora ni haeru kazoe kirenu hoshi ga
hitotsu hitotsu anata wo toraeru you na

The countless stars sparkling in the night sky…
It is as if I treat each one of them as you.

hon no hitoma sore mo kakeru koto wa nai wa
doko ni itemo kanarazu kanjirareru

It is for the briefest moment, yet it does not wane!
No matter where you are, I can certainly sense you.

kono tsuki yukkuri terasu hikari ga
yasashiku anata wo tsutsumikomu yori
setsuna ni setsu na ni dare yori furisosoida hoshi no you

The light that gently shines upon the moon,
Rather than tenderly wrapping you up,
Is like a star, which had rained momentarily, eagerly, more than anyone…

sasai na sono shigusa mo mina subete
fuseta hitomi tsuita toiki sae mo
minna minna ikiteiru akashi yo
keshite fushite doko he iku to iu no

These trivial actions, and everything else…
My covered eyes, and even the heavy sigh I give out…
All of them are proof that I am alive!
I shall disappear, and they will ask where I am heading…

yagate asahi nobori hoshi wa shirami kiete
sukoshi dakedo anata wo tooku ni kanji

Before long, the morning sun will rise, and the stars will fade to white and disappear.
It’s only a little, but I feel your presence, somewhere far away.

dakedo sonna zanshi atatakakute suki yo

However, such a residue is warm, and I am fond of it.
I shall hold it to my chest and sleep! Let’s meet again, okay?

hoshi mienu gozen no hare ma mo
sou hon no wazuka demo kumo no ma ni ma ni

Though it is a clear morning, and the stars cannot be seen,
Yes… even though it was just the smallest amount, between the clouds…

anata kanjita dakedo mou itsu kara ka soresura mo
ikuoku no hoshi no yobikake kotaenai

I felt your presence. However, since who knows when, even that,
And the appeals of thousands of stars, are no longer answered.

aa anata ga mou inai koto wo shitta
soushitsukan maru de koori mitai

Aah, I knew that you were already gone…
My sense of loss is just like ice.

sore wo tokasu mono wa nai no dakedo
ochitsuiteru watashi naze ka iru no

Though there may be nothing that can thaw this ice,
I have calmed down, and for some reason, I am here.

soshite saido yoru wa you wo okashi oriru
nagaku kurikaesareru shizen no housoku

Thus, the night invades the sun again, and descends…
It is the law of nature, one that has been repeated for eternity.

sore ni narai kore mo mata hitotsu no sadame
soshite hoshi no ichibu ni kuwawaru no ne

Furthermore, I, who imitate this, am yet another law,
And perhaps I will join in as one part of a star…

Before long, the morning sun will rise, and the stars will fade to white and disappear.
For the first time in a while, I feel your presence, somewhere in the world.

dakedo sonna zanshi atatakakute suki yo
mune ni daite nemuru wa arigato

However, such a residue is warm, and I am fond of it.
I shall hold it to my chest and sleep! Thank you…
