This time, it’s Marisa’s turn to lay her secrets bare. The lyrics are split between the two booklet pages – the first page’s lyrics (night scene) are marked in red, and the right page’s lyrics (day scene) are marked in gold.

Anyway, what is ‘Eversion’? Well, it’s apparently the process of turning inside-out. It’s also a form of defence used by sea cucumbers in which they spit out their internal organs, but I don’t think that’s the intended meaning here…

RD also wrote a few things about this song on Twitter, including “I feel like I can’t really recommend this song to people who like Marisa.” [なんかこの曲やっぱり魔理沙好きな人にはお勧めできない気がしてる]

RD has his own view of Marisa, and he raised an interesting point about her name on Twitter. The ‘Ma’ 魔 in her name literally means ‘demon,’ so he twisted her name around in a sort of wordplay: “The demon of Risa Kirisame” [霧雨理沙の魔]. I think this is deeply linked to this song, especially since it deals with the superstitious belief that stepping on a young woman’s shadow will turn them into a demon. Shadows play a big part in this song, but bear in mind that its Japanese word 影 (kage) can also be used to refer to someone’s figure or form. Anyway, that’s all for the contextual information this time! Hopefully it all comes together and makes sense.

I heard those words at last:
“I can see nothing but you myself.”
I shouldn’t have needed anything else
After that…

That girl, who attracted the notice of others, was on my mind.
She had a physique unfamiliar around these parts,
And though she sometimes walked around here
I didn’t know her name, or where she lived.

I just wanted to step on her small shadow… [1]

One day, I caught sight of that girl who was on my mind.
This time, she was with someone else.
Though they looked like ordinary acquaintances from close by,
Her shadow was crooked, in some respects.

It was as if she regarded her partner as an enemy against whom she could not let down her guard.
She was a wicked star, and though she was so close, I would never let my eyes slip from her…

Aah, that small shadow
Stood all alone.
Perhaps I thought she looked melancholy
Because she let me sneak a look at such an expression.

My mind was sent rolling.
Do I even know who I am?
I will just be strong:
So strong I am pure. As a girl…

Aah, it falls from the heavens.
Something is falling from the heavens.
Even though it all belongs to me…

I want the things I want.
I want more than what’s been given to me.
What’s wrong with that?

Because I live, I live, I live. And whilst I’m alive,
Everything belongs to me!

…Embracing her baseless conviction,
Is the girl completely unstable?

But still, that girl was on my mind.
She had a physique unfamiliar around these parts,
And though she sometimes walked around here,
She could never live alone.

She cast a distinct shadow…

One day, I caught sight of that girl who was on my mind.
However, she was together with a man.
Though as an outsider they looked like a happy couple,
Her shadow was crooked, in some respects.

It was as if she was flaunting her property to someone else.
She was a wicked star, and though she was so repulsive, I would never let my eyes slip from her…

Aah, that small shadow
Drew close to me.
I thought she looked seductive
Because she let me see her that way.

My thoughts were sent rolling.
Do I even know who I am?
I will just be strong:
So strong I am chaste. As a girl…

Aah, it falls from the heavens.
Something is falling from the heavens.
Even though it all belongs to me…

Before it’s taken away from me,
I’ll take it back.
I’m going to go and take it all away!

Aah, you’re wrong. I’m right.
Because you never looked at me…

…Embracing her baseless conviction,
Is the girl strong in all aspects?

I know romance.
I know love.
But can that change anything…?

But I suppose I was born
With everything
Hidden deep inside me…

Aah, why did that small shadow
End up making an expression
As if a demon was concealed
Inside herself?

My thoughts were sent rolling.
Whilst knowing who I am,
I will just be strong:
So strong I am greedy. As a woman…

Aah, it falls from the heavens.
Something is falling from the heavens.
Everything that falls belongs to me!

I won’t follow the rules.
I won’t let anyone stop me.
Nothing will tie me down!

Aah, as if I’ll let go! If this is a curse,
Then I’ll curse you so you’ll be by my side forever!

…Embracing her baseless conviction,
Is the girl completely honest twisted?

No problem! I’m sorry I couldn’t help make it make more sense >_< I feel like RD really went all-out with the lyrics this time. But please let me know if there are any sections in particular that sound weird, because I might have interpreted them incorrectly!

My bad! I wasn’t too confident in this translation, so I just assumed the worst >_<

Hearing words of thanks does help, though 🙂 Thanks for your support!

Hm, so if I understood correctly, are form the perspective of someone from Gensokyo (probably Akyuu) and the red parts are from Marisa’s perspective?
