はじまり (hajimari) normally means ‘beginning,’ but I ended up translating the title as ‘A song of Starting Over.’ In other words, I interpreted ‘beginning’ as ‘beginning (again)’.

As a whole, I think this song is about Koishi deciding to close her third eye and, as a result, ‘start over.’ She wants to forget about everything she’s seen so far with her third eye and start again. When she says “nice to meet you,” it might be because she’s looking at herself as an entirely new person…

The ‘transparent things’ referred to around the middle are possibly people’s feelings. She doesn’t want to be able to see right through people, so she ‘breaks the glass.’ Being unable to see what people are feeling means she risks hurting herself or others, but she wants to be able to see this danger as something beautiful.

ima made miete ita mono
zenbu wasurete shimaou
ima made miete ita mono
kakikaeshi chaou

I shall forget everything
That I’ve seen up until now.
I shall rewrite everything
That I’ve seen up until now.

kuro to shiro de umaru sekai
zenbu kowashite shimaou
shiro to kuro ga mazari au sekai
tashika na mono nado nai

I shall destroy this world,
A world covered in black and white.
There’s nothing certain at all
In this world, in which white and black mix together.

yurete sekai ga hirakete
kagamigoshi no jibun mite
chotto hazukashii kedo
hajimemashite

I was shaken, and the world opened up before me.
I looked at myself in the mirror,
And though I felt a bit embarrassed…
“Nice to meet you!”

te wo nobashitemo mata kizutsukete
tsukami kaketa mono surinukete
omoidoori ni ikanai hi demo
atarashii nanika ga aru kara

Though I stretch my hands out, I just hurt others again
And I slip through the things I come close to grasping.
Even on days when nothing goes my way,
There’s something new, so…

toumei na mono nante iranai
omoikiri tatakitsuketa
wareta gurasu no ayausa wo
utsukushii to omoeta no nara

I don’t need transparent things –
I struck out at them with all my might.
If only I could think of the danger of broken glass
As something beautiful…

anata no kimochi nante sa
shiranai gurai ga choudo ii
watashi no kimochi de sura sa
shiranai nda mono

I don’t know what you’re feeling
But that’s just fine with me
Because I don’t even know
My own feelings.

dare mo inai ushiro
sutaato shita bakari dashi
zutto mae no hito ni wa
oitsukenakutemo

Nobody’s behind me
And I’ve only just started, too!
But I don’t mind, even if I can’t overtake
The people in front of me…

wakaranaku naru koto de shika
wakaru sekai ga soko ni aru no
saigo ni nokotta pai hitotsu
nokoseru jibun ni nareru kara

There’s a world out there that you can only understand
By not understanding it.
I’ll become the sort of person
Who can save the last piece of pie for myself.

me no mae no fensu wo tobikoecha
ikenai kimari wa nai kara sa
fuwari fuwari watagashi no you ni
yasashiku uketomete hoshii na

There’s no rule out there saying
That I can’t jump over the fence before me.
I want you to gently catch me
Like soft, light cotton candy.

ame no naka no hizashi toka
orenji-iro no chiheisen toka
tachidomatte mitemo ii kara
sukoshi zutsu ippo zutsu de ii
mae ni susumetara sore de ii

It’s good to stop and look at things
Like sunlight in the rain
Or the orange horizon,
So it’s fine to take things step by step.
It’s fine if I’m moving forward.

te wo nobashitemo mata kizutsukete
tsukami kaketa mono surinukete
omoidoori ni ikanai hi demo
atarashii nanika ga aru kara

Though I stretch my hands out, I just hurt others again
And I slip through the things I come close to grasping.
Even on days when nothing goes my way,
There’s something new, so…

toumei na mono nante iranai
omoikiri tatakitsuketa
wareta gurasu no ayausa wo
utsukushii to omoeta no nara

I don’t need transparent things –
I struck out at them with all my might.
If only I could think of the danger of broken glass
As something beautiful…

    > Even on days when nothing goes my way,

    > Even on days when nothing goes as I expect,

I found these two lines should be the same but are not.
