I haven’t translated that many Kancolle songs, but the ones that I have translated seem to deal with a similar theme – being left behind. I guess that makes sense, since the series is about warships. You end up with some very moving lyrics as a result. This particular track is about a ship called Shigure (時雨).

kono basho de narande mita umi wo
ima wa chigatta kimochi de nagameteru
atarimae ni kanjiteta
egao wa mou soba ni nai nda ne

Now I gaze upon the ocean here, where we once lined up,
Feeling differently to how I felt before.
I used to think us being together was only natural
But there aren’t any smiling faces nearby anymore.

onaji namae no moto ni umare
chigau tokoro e to hikihanasarete iku
hitori hariageru koe wa
toozakari yuku senaka ni
todokanakute

Born under the same name,
We were pulled apart, separated and taken somewhere else.
The cries I raised alone
Didn’t reach you
As you went further away.

akatsuki ni kiete iku
oite ikanaide
nokosareru no wa
mou tsukareta yo
kokoro sae nurasu
yamanai ame no naka
boku wa, doko ni ikeba ii no kana

They vanish into the dawn.
Don’t leave me here!
I’m tired
Of being left behind.
Even my heart is drenched
During this ceaseless rain.
I wonder where I should go…?

sabishisa wo wakachi aenakute
nanige nai kuuki ni sae
kodoku wo kanjiru yo
subete owareba konna
omoi wo shinakute sumu no kana

Unable to share my isolation,
Even the vacant air
Feels lonesome.
I wonder, if everything comes to an end
I won’t have to feel this way anymore, will I?

kodou wa toki wo kizamu keredo
jibun no ikiru kachi wa
midasenai mama
minna itte shimatta noni
boku dake ga kono basho kara
ugokenakute

Though my heartbeats mark the time,
I still can’t find
Any value in living.
Though everyone has already gone away,
I’m the only one who cannot move
From this place.

akatsuki ni kiete iku
oite ikanaide
nokosareta riyuu wo oshiete yo
ashi wo hikizutte
ippo wo fumidashita
doko e, mukau no ka mo wakarazu ni

They vanish into the dawn.
Don’t leave me here!
Tell me why I’ve been left behind!
Limping,
I took a step forward
Without even knowing where I was going.

sora wo tsuku you na oto wa
itsu made nari tsudzuku no darou
ikutsu no kanashimi wo kasaneru darou

I wonder how long those noises, which could pierce through the sky,
Will continue to resound.
Perhaps they’re overlapping with countless sorrows…

kagayaki wo ushinatta fuukei no naka ni
dareka no yobu koe ga hibiita
kumo no sukima kara sosogu hikari no you ni
asa wo tsugeru you ni

Within this landscape, which had lost its radiance, (1)
Someone’s call resounded.
It was like a ray of light pouring from the clouds
Marking morning’s arrival.

sagashite, samayotte
kimi ga ite kureta
hitsuyou to shite kureru nakama ga
mada kono karada ni
yakume ga aru no nara
boku wa, koko ni itemo ii no kana

I searched and went astray
But you were there for me.
My companions, to whom I am so valuable,
Are still here inside me.
If I have a purpose,
Then I wonder if it’s okay for me to be here…

(1) 色彩 (shikisai – colours) is written, but 輝き (kagayaki – radiance) is sung.

    Thanks for the translation!

Just a little correction on the 3rd stanza first line it should be 暁に消えていく

You’re welcome! Thanks for pointing out the incorrect line, too 🙂 Changing が to に makes it completely different…!
