This is my favourite track from the album. The chorus is so emotive! It’s everything I could hope for from an arrangement of Sagume’s theme.

chiisana sakinohaka
bokura no yukusue wo ureu you na kuroi hana

A small sakinohaka— (1)
That black flower seems to lament our fate.

sasagete ushinatte
hakanai kibou sae osoroshiku omoeta no

Offering it up, losing it…
Even fleeting hopes seemed terrifying.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo.
Eeny, meeny miney, mo.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni yudaneyou
sayonara dake ga furitsumoru sekai ga kurutte iru nda
Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni tazuneyou
futari dake no himitsu ni suru yo

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s leave our fate to the cards.
This world, in which only farewells fall like snow, is mad.
Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s ask the cards about our fate.
It’ll be our secret…

mirai no kakera sae
shiranaide iru hou ga tadashii to shitte iru noni

Still, I know it’s more honest
To not know about even the smallest fragment of the future.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo.
Eeny, meeny miney, mo.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni yudaneyou
sayonara dake ga furi tsumoru sekai wo aishite iru nda
Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni tazuneyou
futari dake no himitsu ni suru yo

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s leave our fate to the cards.
I love this world, in which only farewells fall like snow.
Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s ask the cards about our fate.
It’ll be our secret…

dareka ni erabarete ikasarete iru nante omowanai
kanashii ketsumatsu nara sakasama ni shiyou

I don’t think we’re chosen by someone and kept alive.
If a sad conclusion awaits us, let’s turn it around!

Eeny, meeny miney, mo.
Eeny, meeny miney, mo.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni yudaneyou
sayonara dake ga bokura wo hanaregataku suru nda
Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni tazuneyou
kimi to boku no Fortune taisetsu ni suru yo

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s leave our fate to the cards.
Only farewells will make it hard for us to part.
Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s ask the cards about our fate.
I’ll treasure our fortune, you know…

Eeny, meeny miney, mo.
Eeny, meeny miney, mo.

Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni yudaneyou
sayonara dake ga furi tsumoru sekai wo aishite iru nda
Eeny, meeny miney, mo. unmei wo kaado ni tazuneyou
futari dake no himitsu ni suru yo

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s leave our fate to the cards.
I love this world, in which only farewells fall like snow.
Eeny, meeny, miney, mo. Let’s ask the cards about our fate.
It’ll be our secret…

(1) The sakinohaka (サキノハカ) is not a real flower. Rather, it was ‘created’ by Miyazawa Kenji in the following passage from his poem ‘To My Students’:

“With a black flower called sakinohaka
a revolution will soon be here.
It is a ray of light sent to us,
a southerly wind already decided on.”
