This song feels like it’s being told from a third-person perspective. That doesn’t really work, though, because apparently we’re meant to assume that the subject of most Japanese sentences is ‘I’ unless indicated otherwise. It’s almost like nobody is singing this song, which feels really odd.

sakura yoru ni afurete
sono inochi wo odoraseteru you ni
hara hara to maeba hanabira no iro ni somete
kaze yurashita kami tanabikasete

The night overflows with cherry blossoms
So the hearts of living things will be made to dance.
When they dance down, they will linger above my hair,
Dyed the colour of the blossoms and swaying in the wind.

haru wo machi kogareru kaze wa tsumetakute
miageta hoshi kasaneru wasurenai hibi ni

I long for the spring. The wind is cold.
I look up at the stars and see those unforgettable days.

kajikanda te de yubiori kazoeteta fukai yuki no naka
furikiru yaiba ni omoi to kazashite mata me wo tojireba

I counted on my numb fingers in the dense snow.
I held out my feelings toward my blade. When I close my eyes once more…

sakura yume ni afurete
sono kaori ni tsutsumareru mitai ni
yamiyo ni ukabeta tsuka no ma no iro aru kara
mata ashita e arukeru ki ga shite

My dreams overflow with cherry blossoms.
It’s like I’m being wrapped up in their fragrance.
Because their colours appeared in the night for an instant,
I feel like I can keep walking toward tomorrow.

itsuka hana wa kareru kimi no kuchiguse de
inochi wa towa ja nai to wasurenai tame ni

“Someday, those flowers will die…” That was your favourite saying.
You kept saying it so I wouldn’t forget that life isn’t eternal.

yokaze ni rin to hakanaku chitte yuku utsukushisa wo shitte
kurikaeshita kisetsu wo meguri nagara mata otona ni natta

The flowers scattered in the night breeze, nobly and in vain. I understood how beautiful they were.
As the seasons cycled around, I became an adult once more.

sakura kimi ni akogare
sono kokoro ni yori sotteru you ni
futari no chikai wa ikusen no toki wo tsugete
sono sadame wo atatakaku terashite

The cherry blossoms long for you
So they may draw closer to your heart.
Our vow marks the passing of thousands of years
And it shines warmly upon that fate.

sakura yoru ni afurete
sono inochi wo odoraseteru you ni
hara hara to maeba hanabira no iro ni somete
kaze ga hakonda mata tsugi no haru e

The night overflows with cherry blossoms
So the hearts of living things will be made to dance.
When they dance down, I will be dyed the same colour as them.
The wind carried them, again, toward the next spring.
