The last track from this album! This… actually seems to link quite heavily to the first track. The perspective seems to shift between Reimu and Akyuu throughout the song. Both appear to express their concerns about Kosuzu (referred to as 娘 ‘musume,’ sang as ‘ko’), and how she may forget she is human. Honestly, after translating this track, I’d like to go back and revise my translation of the first track, since this one appears to act as a sort of prequel.

Update [22/06/2015]: I fixed up the translator’s note. I actually didn’t intend to have it in there, but by the time I realised I left it in, it was too late to get rid of it…

The last Comp track from this album. I really like those “The Strange Everyday Life of the Flying Shrine Maiden” parts scattered throughout – that melody is really effective. The role of the speaker seems to shift between Kosuzu (the beginning) and Nitori (the choruses – there’s a bit of weird slang in them, but I did my best). There’s also plenty of references to the titular ‘Seven Wonders.’ If you’d like to learn more about them, I recommend visiting this site.

(1) へのかっぱ (he no kappa) is a set phrase meaning ‘a cinch/something easy to do.’ Since the speaker is [presumably] Nitori, it doubles as wordplay, since it has her species name ‘kappa’ in it.

Continuing on with another track from this album – I can’t believe there’s only two to go after this!

Given that ‘Faith is for the Transient People’ is one of the themes that’s mashed up, you’d expect the song to be told from Sanae’s point of view. That’s possible, but I think it might actually be told from the Dine-and-Dasher’s point of view, as certain parts of the song, such as the smoke bit, refer to the incident in which Mamizou unmasks their true identity. Of course, I can only make this judgement based on reading a plot summary – my interpretation might change once I read the original chapters in August when vol. 4 comes out.

This song is based on chapters 12 and 13 of Forbidden Scrollery, and the star is Shinmyoumaru (which is ironic, given that she doesn’t really play a major role in the original chapters…) She compares herself to the tsukumogami throughout the song, and there appears to be a subtle shift in perspective towards the end, where she appears to express sympathy for them. By the way, I’m not sure if I was correct in doing this, but I ‘translated’ all instances of ‘Tsukumo‘ and ‘Tsukumotachi‘ as ‘Tsukumogami.’ It’s a bit of a grey area since the Tsukumo sisters exist and all…

I’d say this is my favourite track of the album, probably because of the chorus. And plus, it has more Futatsuiwa than Buta-Otome’s last Futatsuiwa arrangement, so it’s a winner in my book!

This track is based on chapters 4 and 5 of Forbidden Scrollery. I feel like the speaker is Mamizou – she’s chastising someone. Perhaps it’s Kosuzu? Perhaps it’s Reimu? Either way, there seems to be some connection with the first track. Perhaps it isn’t actually Mamizou who ends up standing in the rain during this song…

This song is based on chapters 18 and 19 of Forbidden Scrollery. I feel like the perspective may shift around a bit, but it’s primarily told from the point of view of the fox-child, who Kosuzu befriends. Perhaps it’s a sort of prologue? Also, I think there may be a reference to a certain other song in there somewhere…

‘arakezuri’ sore ga mottoo no watashi
washidzukami tanoshii koto ga matten da

I, whose motto is being ‘unrefined,’
Grabbed hold – fun things surely await me! (1)

genjitsu wa rifujin darake
dakara dakishimerun da
tama ni korondemo sore wa sore de
ryuu tasuke tsume moratte masa ni ‘warashibe chouja’
yosou tsukanai yo jinsei wa

Reality is full of irrational things.
That’s why I hug them close,
Even if I fall over sometimes…
I saved a dragon and received a claw – surely I’m a ‘Straw Millionaire!’ (2)
Life doesn’t go according to plan, you know!

atama no naka de koe ga kikoetara
mayowazu wakuwaku suru hou he hashitte

If I can hear a voice inside my head,
I’ll run off, without hesitating, in the direction that thrills me!

(1) The lyrics read 事件 (‘jiken’ – incident), but 楽しいこと (‘tanoshii koto’ – fun things) is sung.
(2) This is a reference to an old Japanese tale, in which a poor man works his way up by trading things to other people, starting with a piece of straw.

UPDATE [1/07/2015]: I updated the title to match the translation of the chapter that is currently available (for the sake of consistency!). I also made some minor changes to the translation. As I said in my translation of the last song, this song seems to be a ‘sequel’ of sorts, told from Kosuzu’s point of view. Unlike the other tracks, though, this one doesn’t seem to match what goes on in the chapter, unless there’s something I’m missing…

*Insert usual Buta-Otome album hype here* But seriously, I’m loving the mashups. Especially since such random themes are mashed together – in that sense, I guess it’s a more souped-up version of Light (ひかり – ‘hikari’)? As a side note, the this track can be downloaded from Buta-Otome’s official website. Though I recommend visiting the website anyway, here is the download link from the official website.

I’m confident that the album title is based on 琴のそら音 (‘The Empty Sounds of the Koto’), but I still need to research it a bit more. Also, the song title this time is based on chapters 24 and 25 of Forbidden Scrollery, and the romaji is brought to you by Tegamin!

furishikiru ame watashi wo oite tte
nureru koto mo kanawanai no
amari ni mo tadashisugite kowarete mo
kizukarenai hitoribocchi nara

“Leave me behind” I said, in the pouring rain.
I can’t bear getting wet.
I am too righteous, and even if I break,
I will not be noticed. I’m all alone. If so…

fui ni zawatsuku mimi no oku ni
shinikarizumu shimawarete yuku
shigunaru wo hasshite nageita

It suddenly became noisy inside my ears,
And I was shut down by cynicism. (1)
I gave forth a signal, and I sighed…

kakerareta noroi jiyuu to kodoku to ga
yuiitsu tare to seme tsuzukeru
suterarenu kono watashi no tadashisa ga
itsu itsu made mo shibaritsukete yuku

Freedom and isolation are the curses that were cast on me.
Just one is sufficient – they continue to condemn me.
The righteousness of I, who cannot be cast away,
Will always, always, continue to confine me.

warui kotoba no hashi wo tsukamu
tomedo mo naku nagareochiteku
azayaka ni terashite kuuhaku

I seize the edge of those wicked words,
But they run off without end
Into that brilliantly shining blank space…

shinjitsu no zanzou subete ga kuzurete mo
utagau no wa mou yameyou
yoake mae myoujou kurutte tsunawatari
tomadou koto uso ja nai yo demo

In the afterimage of reality, even if everything crumbles away,
Please, stop doubting me already!
Before dawn, the morning star goes mad, tightrope walking.
My bewilderment isn’t a lie! Still…

furishikiru ame watashi wo oite tte
nureru koto mo kanawanai no
amari ni mo tadashisugite kowarete mo
samishikunai miraieigou zutto

“Leave me behind” I said, in the pouring rain.
I can’t bear getting wet.
I am too righteous, and even if I break,
I won’t be lonely. For eternity, always…
